MUNA has fans in high places. And by that we mean some of the biggest names in music. Not only were the Los Angeles-based trio hand-picked by Phoebe Bridgers to be the first band signed to her record label Saddest Factory, but they’ve also found themselves supporting tours for a whopping three artists who have taken home the GRAMMY award for Album of the Year: Kacey Musgraves, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift.
Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson first met when they were students at University of Southern California. In 2013, they started performing together as MUNA and began writing hook-driven electronic pop songs. After their 2014 EP More Perfect took off on BandCamp and SoundCloud they found themselves signed to the major label RCA Records.
Though they started to see success while signed to the RCA Records, MUNA truly came into their sound after joining indie label Dead Oceans under the Saddest Factory imprint in 2021. That year they reintroduced themselves to the world with the release of their electrifying single "Silk Chiffon." Featuring Phoebe Bridgers, Rolling Stone called the track, “buoyant … with an uncharacteristically bright declaration of queer love."
In June, 2022, MUNA released their self-titled third album. It’s their most pop-forward, proudly queer album to-date, and has catapulted the band into the mainstream. They found themselves promoting the album with appearances on the final season of Ellen, another visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and opening slots on arena tours. To give fans the high-energy performances they’ve come to expect, the members of MUNA use their handcrafted, custom-molded UE 18+ to get a pristine personal monitor mix on every corner of the stage.
